UPDATED: Rand Paul On The Bluto - McConnell Strategy

Disgraced former AG Bluto Barr and Cocaine Mitch McConnell appear to be coordinating attacks on President Trump, claiming that Trump incited a mob to attack Congress while it was engaged in "sacred" constitutional duties--putting the finishing touches on The Big Steal. Exactly what the end game is, is anyone's guess. They clearly seem to be egging the Dems on to push for an impeachment trial in the Senate and to convict Trump of ... something. Apparently McConnell believes that Barr's backing will give this push credibility with, well, the GOPe? It surely won't help get Republicans elected come 2022, not if the Georgia runoffs were any indication and not if Trump's approval polling means anything.

To me, all this is mind bogglingly wacky, but each of Barr and McConnell have shown real tone deafness and serious lack of perspective during the past two years. Commenter Ray So-Cal has linked a Zerohedge blog that features Senator Rand Paul being interviewed by Laura Ingraham. Paul speaks lucid good sense:

“I don’t understand how they can be moving forward with this,” he said, before adding

“The thing they’re doing now is an overreaction, and if they think they’re going to have a positive feeling from the public, when they’re going to go through a partisan impeachment again, I think that’s absolutely insane and wrong headed.”

"Absolutely insane and wrong?" Sounds like Trump derangement syndrome on steroids.

Ingraham then asked Paul if he was surprised that McConnell is reportedly planning to instruct Republicans to vote to convict President Trump after he leaves the presidency, in a move that could strip him of his security and prevent him from running for office in 2024.

“I don’t often get asked my advice from leadership on how they should react, but my unsolicited suggestion would be this: They will destroy the Republican Party if leadership is complicit in impeachment, or if leadership votes for impeachment, they will destroy the party.”

“Impeachment is purely a partisan thing, it’s for the moral, ‘Oh I’m so much better than you, and you’re a bad person, because I’m so moral.’” Paul added, “These are the kind of people that are going to do this.”

I think he means, 'It's about virtue signaling.' But Paul believes that Republican voters will interpret that signaling as something quite different from virtue.

“The impeachment is a wrongheaded, partisan notion. If Republicans go along with it, it will destroy the party. A third of Republicans will leave the party.”

“This isn’t about, anymore, the electoral college,” Paul concluded.

“It’s about the future of the party, and if you’re going to ostracize and excommunicate President Trump from the party, then guess what, millions of his fans will leave as well.”

Trump's electoral victories were based on getting people to vote who had never voted or hadn't voted in many years. Those people will stay home if the GOPe continues down this path to a political cliff. Many previously loyal regular Republican voters will also be turned off.

UPDATE: To prove Rand Paul's point:

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll: Trump Approval at 51%.

Since neither cocaine Mitch nor Pence are stipid, this must be their goal. Or their instructions should I say?

  3. Which is most possible?

    1. GOP who vote to impeach get primaried and Trump collects many skulls, and purges the gop.
    2. Trump forms a new party, destroying the gop.
    3. Trump is impeached by the Senate with gop help, and it destroys his credibility with his backers, who happily go back to vote for the GOPe
    4. Trump goes full out war with the GOPe after being impeached in the Senate, but stays a “Republican”.
    5. Trump is back on social media after the inauguration and his supporters apply massive legal pressure to the GOPe in the senate. Rallies, protests, letter writing, etc.
    6. Trump organizes massive economic boycotts of anti Trump organizations.
    7. Trump starts his own news channel / social media empire
    8. Trump is impeached and it’s political suicide for those GOPe aiding and abetting.

    3 is the least likely..,

I'm not sure you or your readership has ever/yet addressed the subject matter of this article from Breitbart. It raises an interesting counter to social media censure, which may or may not be viable under principles of federalism/supremacy clause.

But the question which it raises in my mind, is: why couldn't an individual state, in furtherance of its state constitutional provisions insuring freedom of speech, ban from operation within the state any private social media company which censors free speech.

I'm not expecting New York or California to adopt any such law, but there are plenty of states like North Dakota which might be so inclined.

[To begin to answer my own question: I think the push back against such a measure is whether the measure is a legitimate exercise of the so-called 'police powers' of the individual state, reserved to the states under the Tenth Amendment.]

    1. Perhaps more promising is that certain nations are taking action--Poland, for example:

  6. I think those aforementioned RINO's are willing to join the Democrats in impeaching President Trump to stop him from running in 2024. They join Pelosi and the Dems in doing so. President Trump was so disruptive to the unlawful way politicians act in Washington that they shudder at the thought of him returning.
Another point pertaining to the Republican Party, I think Mr Trump will create another party to run against the existing parties. The man is a battler!

  7. The aforementioned men do not want President Trump back in 2024; hence, the impeachment move. He upset the way of doing things in the Swamp, for that matter the World. That's the rush to get him impeached.
One other thing, we may see President Trump start another party, one that he can lead and change the Swamp once and for all. He may not run for President in 2024, but he can lead the party. People are fed up with the lip service both the Republicans and Democrats give to their constituents. Trump is a fighter and I don't think the fight is over just yet.

There's no doubt Pelosi, the Dems and the RINOs are out to stop Trump from running in 2024.

Here's an excerpt from an email a friend shared with me which Adam Schiff sent to his supporters today:

"..today is President Trump’s last full day in office. And the Senate is finally back in session, days after the House voted to impeach him for incitement of insurrection. Trump may finally be leaving the White House tomorrow, but we must hold him accountable for his wrongdoing and ensure he never holds public office again. Add your name if you think Trump should be disqualified from ever holding office again".

  8. What about Trump terrifies McConnell? That is causing him to go against Trump now? Perhaps he sees Trump as his weakest now!

    Or:

    - What he will do in his last few hours as President? Pardons or declassifications?
    - Chance he will primary Vichy eGOP?
    - China retaliation for Trumps Uighur Genocide ruling?
    - Trump is seen as an obstacle for fundraising from corporate America?
    - that Trump would be an effective Resistance for the next 4 years?
    - The huge coming defects / inflation / economic slow down / outbid control Congress spending are huge targets Trump can leverage

  12. As a Georgian, it feels better and better that Mitch got de-throned down here. No matter how bad Osoff and Warnock are, it now appears nothing can be worse than Mitch keeping his power. Good riddings! we dealt with Mitch, we can deal with Osoff and Warnock in the future...

    2. You're 100% correct! Still feels great to be rid of McConnell as Maj. Leader, though. Let them expose away. Never a good win/win in the swamp...always the lesser of two evils. To me, the hypocrite is worse than the imbecile most of the time.

  14. McConnell can get a pretty good price from the Democrats for those 'bipartisan' Republican votes in the Senate.

The reality is that the Democrats and the Republicans stand to lose a lot of power if Trump can regain office. It is in both party's best interests to take a hit now and keep Trump out of any future office.

  15. I don't think it matters much what the GOP does or doesn't do. People are so hung up in the red vs blue game they will keep pulling the cart no matter who holds what carrot. Lesser evils, just a few RINOs and all of that jazz.

How they were able to come within 20 points of the Senate races in GA is beyond me.

The game works, loosing several millions here or there makes little difference.

The GOP is set retake the house in 2022, no matter what anyone does or does not do in between. It's THAT predictable.
