Wait A Minute: Lethal Force Authorized For Guard In DC?

It appears the DC Establishment is totally freaking out. This, from the US News:

National Guard at Capitol Authorized to Use Lethal Force in Aftermath of Mob

Can you say: Grotesque overreaction? But here it is:

THE 20,000 NATIONAL Guard troops preparing for pro-Trump demonstrations this weekend in the nation's capital will be armed and permitted to use lethal force, the headquarters overseeing them says, marking a striking escalation in the way authorities there are preparing for repeat violence after last week's deadly mob.

"On January 12, 2021, National Guardsmen were given authorization to be armed in support of the U.S. Capitol Police to protect the U.S. Capitol and individual members of Congress and their staff," according to a statement from the D.C. National Guard, which is commanding Guard forces in the city, including units deployed from six other states, to provide security for President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration next week.

A defense official confirmed the authorization includes permission for Guard troops to use lethal force.

The request came from federal authorities and was approved by Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy ...

This only enhances the look of the Imperial City on the Potomac circling the wagons against the nation it rules. Someone is seriously out of touch.

  1. This is what happens when your leadership is all octogenarians. They are reliving the 60's, Kent State and all. The dangerous difference this time is the Joint Chiefs of Staff seem to be completely oblivious to the change in the left. They are playing directly into their hands. USMA grad who is saddened by how politicized the military leadership is becoming.

    1. I think that's the difference with the House GOP. At least their leadership isn't octogenarian and has a bit more of a clue.

    2. On a similar note - whilst much of the extreme overreaction to covid was consciously in order to further an agenda, I suspect a lot of it also came from the fact that most policymakers and intellectual taste makers are atheistic octogenarians who quite simply feared their own mortality.

    3. It would appear to me that the Joint Chiefs of Staff have been hand-in-glove with the left for some time. Trump threatened to derail the promotion circus train of endless wars against not much more than glorified goatherds and try to buck them up for the possibility of facing down the CCP. A task they are neither professionally or morally prepared to undertake.

    4. No need to slam all octogenarians because Nancy Pelosi is a power mad hysteric who is out for Conservative blood. She wanted to “rip Trump out of the White House”. From a family with known mob ties in Baltimore, she is showing her roots in more ways than one...

    5. Bebe, not slamming octogenarians. Just pointing out the military aphorism "the generals always fight the last war". We all see the world thru a set of filters many of which are set in the prime of our life 30 - 50. By the time we reach our 80's, most of us struggle to deal with all the change from the intervening years. By the time we are in our 80's, the world has experienced multiple waves of change and it starts to make us uncomfortable.
I like to say "I wish the baby boomers would just exit stage left already". And yes, I am one. Think of the experiences of the first half of the baby boom in the 1960's and 70's. Wasn't the saying never trust anyone over 30? :)

    6. Yes, our Navy needs to be shown how to steer their ships better. They even n eed to learn to build them better. The Littorial ships are a prime example.

  3. I well remember Kent State and how that all played out.

Kurt Schlichter was there for the LA riots in 1993. I'll be he has an opinion, too.

Armed troops dealing with domestic unrest is a recipe for disaster.

  4. I remember San Fran Nan calling federal agents stormtroopers. Apparently she loves military force now.

  5. They are afraid of us. That is certain. Let them stay fearful. No violence. Show them no respect. That is what will get them when they can lord it all over us.

  6. It didn’t seem to bother any of them when the BLM, Antifa, and an assortment of other left-wing groups, were laying waste to our cities and threatening (as Antifa did) to move into the suburbs. They didn’t blink an eye then, and they still don’t recognize that those dreadful things happened - or, like Kamala the Bail Queen, they state their belief that those riots were justified. (George Floyd had killed himself with drugs.)

  7. They are afraid of us.

Yup. You can smell the sweat all the way to the Mississippi.

  8. Preliminary reports indicate registered Dems were at the forefront of some of the stuff:

  9. You Know Who has a post, referring to the arrest of an antiFa, see affidavit at https://t.co/llG8KHNCRR?amp=1 .

Any guess at how Dems will spin this?

  12. Little known fact: when governors call up the National Guard, the president is automatically granted authority over them.

  13. DC not being a state, not sure how that works:

"The request came from federal authorities and was approved by Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy – who oversees D.C. Guard deployments since the District is not a state – indicating it was not a request from the local government."
