Have A Pavel Morozov Thanksgiving!

Pavel Morozov, as you may know, was the Young Pioneer schoolboy in the Stalinist USSR who supposedly ratted out his father for planning to help sabotage the Glorious Revolution of Father Stalin. Modern research suggests the whole story was invented, but that's not the point. We're all cultural Marxists now, so we know that history is an invention of the oppressive patriarchy--or something or other--and it's the narrative that counts. And so Pavel became a hero of The Revolution, a martyr to The Cause. He was held up to school children as a model, who were urged to follow in his footsteps and rat out reactionary parents and relatives so that they could experience "the highest measure of social defense". Canceling by firing squad.

The Republican governor of Vermont, Phil Scott, must have internalized the Pavel Morozov story at some point in his past--or maybe this is simply the natural mindset of our political class, irrespective of party. When I was a kid being taught by the nuns, the Pavel Morozov story was held up to us as the ultimate depravity of Red Marxism--kids spying on and betraying their parents to oppressive authorities! But we learn today that that's precisely the behavior and mindset that Scott wants to encourage in Vermont juveniles:

Students who attend events with more than just their immediate household will be required to either take online classes for a two-week quarantine period or quarantine for a week and then have a negative COVID-19 test.

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott said during a press conference on Tuesday that schools in the state will include new questions during daily health checks  about whether students and their parents attended gatherings outside of their households following the Thanksgiving holiday.
Scott noted that any students who attend events with more than just their immediate household will be required to either take online classes for a two-week quarantine period or quarantine for a week and then have a negative COVID-19 test.

...

The governor also encouraged businesses to take the same approach with their employees.

“From my standpoint, this is fair warning to those of you who are planning to have gatherings from outside your household for Thanksgiving,” Scott added. “If you don’t want your kids to have to transition to remote learning and quarantine for a seven-day period, maybe you ought to make other plans.”

"Fair warning" or simple threat--is this the new face of "public service" baring its fangs? And who will our Gramscian heroes be? Look to your right and left, look all around. Trust no one. That's the mindset the Great Reset hopes to inculcate in its subject populations.

And not to be outdone by a mere Republican ...

Dem governor Edwards of Louisiana is promulgating his “revised Plan 2”. Whether it's a Great Leap Forward (Red China seems to be our elites' social model) depends on your point of view. Prohibition was considered by some to be a sort of Great Leap Forward, but others begged to disagree. Regardless, Edwards' "revised Plan 2"--I do love the sound of that--will have the effect of forcing most bars in Louisiana to close from Wednesday, Nov. 25 until after Christmas. Because Covid.

Whose idea was it to elect these ...

  1. Hopefully, Vermont will never elect another Republican...

  2. My reaction to these type of stories is, one, where are the Republican legislatures that largely exist to be a check on executive power run amok, and, two, where are the citizens who are sheepishly putting up with this tyranny? My wife and I are looking to move somewhere less tyrannical than Virginia since elections are so rigged here that Democrats will never lose their majority going forward. Tennessee is under consideration. Any other recommendations?

    1. If you don't mind hot summers, East Texas is just about the best. Good medical, non-repressive gov't, polite people who leave you alone if you so desire, positive 2nd amendment culture.

Take a driving trip first. Check it out. You'll be quite surprised and pleased.

    7. Hmmmm. I checked that out on Wikipedia. The photos reminded me of some towns I used to know in what people in Wisconsin call "Up North."

  3. Typo: "not to be outdone BY a mere...."
And, the name was Pavlik, not (the much more common) Pavel.

    1. I fixed the typo but you're wrong about the name. His proper name is Pavel. Pavlik is simply a diminutive, typically for affection. Think Joseph/Joe. Trust me. I know something about Slavic languages.

  4. O/T

There have been numerous incidents recently where we have wondered on whose team who is on as we try to understand the exact facts behind apparent election irregularities and our response to them.

Certainly, the public comments of the likes of Chris Christie, Pat Toomey and Liz Cheney are infuriating when its pretty clear that there are numerous unanswered questions about election irregularities.

I have also wondered here about the precise allegiances of Mssrs Turley and McCarthy as they purport to provide objective legal analysis of various matters Trump.

I have also recently pointed out the unhelpful actions of Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson, which are perhaps even more troubling because they have been stalwart conservatives but as a practical matter their recent pronouncements tend to support the 'conspiracy theory' defense of the Elites. Making the likes of me wonder whether the Carlsons and Ingrahams don't have an anchor thrown out in the direction of some kind of co-existence with the Deep State.

Here are two articles on today's American Thinker which follow up on these concerns --

    https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/11/tucker_carlson_and_the_conservative_circular_firing_squad.html

Both pieces make excellent points. I am left, however, wondering exactly what happened in the 2020 election and how to understand the actions of the Media and the Commentariat in reporting on the election, including some elements of the conservative Commentariat.

  5. Sorry, off topic, but TGP has this disappointing item: John James has conceded MI Senate race

Fine. We don't need 'leaders' like this. If you can't hang tough in critical times you are not fit to lead. But it's ironic that Republicans consistently sell out their base despite talking about honor and truth. The GOP needs to be remade or replaced at this rate.

  6. I was appalled when I saw that article. I remember my very private Mother’s being incensed when our elementary school teachers started off the school year by having us write our autobiographies. She thought it was just plain snooping...
