Lighter Blogging Ahead?

Let's get this out of the way. My wife will be having foot and mouth surgery this week. No connection--strictly a coincidence. The tooth extraction comes on Wednesday followed by toe fusion on Friday. As a result I'll be being helpful, taking over household chores that I wouldn't normally meddle with. We're not entirely sure to what extent and for how long my wife will be immobilized, but the new regime in place will slow my blogging down to some degree.

    1. Actually I've begun the process over the last several weeks by learning to cook. Well ...

My wife is a very fine cook who likes to cook, so it's a bit pointless for me except as a kitchen helper. I follow directions and do a lot of the cutting and chopping and so forth. I like using knives.

    2. Up till now, my cooking has been pretty much confined to preparing 1) pour-over coffee, and 2) strong drinking chocolate.

    3. Not saying my wife doesn't know how to cook, but she once asked me how make a baked sweet potato.

Her never married brother is worse. I once prepares. Thanksgiving dinner that included carrots. He asked me how to cook carrots. Even worse, he askede to write down the recipe.

      I'm not kidding

    4. Um, that sounds a bit like me. I'm getting pretty good with salmon and scrambled eggs (no, not together) but I follow my wife's script.

    1. She had a knee replacement a few years ago. The toe thing won't be anything like that, but feet can be tricky because of all the small bones. Some years ago I had a problem with recurring stress fractures in a foot, and those take a long time to recover. Thank God, no problems since.

  6. Best wishes to the wife and to your expected new "Honey do" lists. LOL. Maybe you can have a a "guest" blogger although pretty much most of the comments from some appear to be the "guest" blogs. Get some rest yourself Mark. Best in recovery.

Necessity is the mother of invention- when you get hungry, you'll learn how to cook!

The sauce is made with half and half, dijon mustard, horseradish, red pepper.

Ha! That kind of line would have scored me a slap on the shoulder from my wife ;-D

  14. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. For most of our lives we've done a lot of walking and this foot problem has got the point now where that's become almost impossible.

  15. Mark, I will definitely miss seeing the "normal" number of posts from you and thanks for what you are able to post. I wish for (and pray for) a speedy and complete recovery for your wife.

P.S. - Try some Johnsonville Andouille sausage with that Jambalaya - it works quite well and for significantly less $$ than the imported LA stuff.

    1. We'll have to keep that in mind. It's some stuff she picked up at Whole Foods. Good sausage isn't so easy to find.

  16. Indeed, thanks to all for the good wishes. I sincerely appreciate it. SOS (spouse of Silver Fox) will do just fine in his new role.
I truly enjoy the cameraderie on this blog. It’s like sitting down with old friends for a really good chinwag.
Again thanks for the well wishes and God bless you all!

  17. Praying for the Mrs.' quick recovery. We just got through both cataracts and gum surgery, not to mention the hernias and lady cancer. We're on a roll now with everything mostly in the past. You'll get through this too. It will bring you closer together and Mark, you'll learn good stuff.
