VERY BRIEFLY NOTED: Ted Cruz Says Yes

Senator Cruz has agreed, at the request of President Trump, to present the Texas case to the SCOTUS. Remember yesterday, when Andy McCarthy thought it was significant that the TX solicitor general didn't sign the TX complaint--the state's solicitor general being the official who would normally argue TX cases before the SCOTUS? The significance of that was never what McCarthy thought, and may well be that this scenario--with Ted Cruz presenting the case--was baked in quite some time ago.

Of course, Cruz is highly qualified to take that role on. It's not just that he's a senator from this hugely important state and has previously sought the presidency. In his previous life he has argued cases before the SCOTUS and has a 5-4 record. His will be a voice that the justices will be familiar with and, certainly from a legal perspective, will respect. He's Establishment of the Bush Tribe--and if you don't believe me, check out not only Ted's own career but that of his wife Heidi.

Add to that the fact that Cruz knows John Roberts well. It was Cruz who recruited Roberts to the Bush legal team before Roberts' elevation to the SCOTUS. Perhaps Cruz, the DC political and legal insider who sits on the Judiciary Committee, will have some insights into Roberts in Roberts' moment of crisis.

Then there's this, from Don Surber: "The Cruz 2024 campaign is off to a good start."

  1. If he succeeds he's got my vote in 2024. I think he can win if he does. And he'll know how to fight the fraud that will surely come.

    1. I agree...if Cruz somehow manages to pull this off, he will be a GOP movement hero, practically guaranteeing him the nomination in 24.

  2. Cruz will cruise to the Republican nomination if he wins this one.

  3. I voted for Cruze in the NJ primary election in 2016, even though Trump already had won a majority of delegates by then.

  4. Cruz is not bad at all. He has supported Trump especially since 'peachments with his "verdict" podcast.
If he can help keep Trump at the helm, he deserves 2024. Although he's Bush era fruit, he's not much deep state.

    1. I really didn't like him bashing Lin Wood recently, when the GOPe went hard after him.

Whilst I don't have respect for Lin directly necessarily, his association with Sidney Powell, Nick Sandmann and Kyle Rittenhouse earns him enormous street cred in this MAGA's eyes.

As Mark points out, he's a Bush Texan, they're slimy enough to get close enough to shiv you, as Sundance likes to say.

  5. Don Surber's news highlights are my first read each morning. I voted for Cruz in the 2016 primary and still hold him in high regard, especially after impeachment and the SCOTUS nomination hearings. He seems much more trustworthy than the quasi-media darling Rubio, IMO.

  6. Cruz is not eligible to be POTUS. That Cruz twists the arguments (for natural born citizenship) to fit his personal ambitions has never sat right with me.

  7. Re: 2024, Cruz has a Canadian b/c and is not a natural born citizen. People with integrity do not flaunt the laws they are employed to protect. Cruz apparently thinks he is above the law and the Constitution.

    1. His mother was born in Delaware, which, as I understand it, makes him a natural born American citizen.

    2. Indeed, and if Harris qualified to run for VP, Cruz's situation is a no-look shoo-in.

    3. I don’t believe Cruz has flouted any law. His mother was born in Delaware. His parents went to Canada three years before he was born - had an oil-related business there. If he has a Canadian birth certificate, it would have been because he was born there. I believe it wold be hard for anyone to say he was not a natural-born (as opposed to naturalized) citizen.

Not at all the same situation as Harris, neither of whose parents was a natural born American..

  8. This is Cruz's highest and best use! He is a very bright lawyer, very good at strategy and arguing cases. He's not the type of leader who would be a good president. He definitely deserves credit for his strengths, and I wish him the best in this fight! Winning this will bring him enough credit- he doesn't need to be an example of Peter's Principle on top of it.

  9. Yeah I'm not one to usually enter into the citizenship arguments but the laws on this are pretty clear and I've got to side with the constitutional requirements to avoid my own hypocrisy.

I like Cruz a lot but being born in Canada to a American mother and Cuban / Canadian national who did not gain US citizenship until 2005 is a very debatable disqualifier to me.

There are places we should just not go and that's one of them.

Not to mention IMHO he is another that needs to quit "the party" and help start a new one worth my participation.

  10. I'd prefer Cruz as Chief Justice of SCOTUS after Roberts resigns.

    1. However, Joe Biden (or Kamala) will have something to say about that.

  11. Andrew McCarthy has become just another NRO quisling. He had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the truth of FBI/DoJ corruption in ObamaGate. Then, late to the party, he proceeded to make a quick costume change in order to capitalize on it with his Ball of Collusion book. You can always count on Andy to take the tack most accommodative to the Deep State. I never read him anymore.

  13. Cruz is not charismatic, so I doubt he could win the primaries.

  14. Maybe I missed it, but when is a decision to take or not take the case expected from the Supremes?

  15. Ted Cruz always has a way with words:

"More than once, I’ve said “screw the Chinese communists.”

Little did I know how closely Swalwell was listening."

  16. OMG. The Supreme Court wouldn't even hear the case? Where in the heck do we go from here? It's over. Biden wins.
