Briefly Noted: David Perdue

I'm going to try something new. A number of readers have suggested instituting daily threads for those who would like to raise topics for matters that don't have a separate post devoted to those topics. So, any post prefixed by "Briefly Noted" can be regarded in that light. I'll try to do these posts on a somewhat regular basis and will include some topic in the heading, but anyone should feel free to raise any topic they wish to in the comments. I may also update throughout the day with links or brief comments. We'll see how it goes.

Emailer Jim referred me to a NYT article about David Perdue. I know that feelings run high over the proposed boycott of the senatorial runoff elections. For context:

The Georgia Republican’s stock trades have far outpaced those of his Senate colleagues and have included a range of companies within his Senate committees’ oversight, an analysis shows.

Is that the price of a sensible SCOTUS? I hate to say yes, yet I shudder at the alternative. It's not like this could be fixed in two years. Perdue would get six more years. Holding one's nose for six years is as bad as masking up for six years.

Don Surber comments on the situation in both AZ (Ducey) as well as GA: Oh, NOW Republicans need us.

  1. Until I finally retired from trading last year, I daytraded the Russell 2000 futures market for a living for ten years. Perdue's stock trading works out to roughly 2.5 trades per day--about the same number of trades I did daily for those ten years. Being a US senator is obviously not a very demanding job.

  2. Thank you Mark, I feel better not crashing threads off topic and sometimes the breaking daily moves so fast that there no good place to shove something.

I'm not sure but blogger may let you auto schedule these so it's not a burden on you.

Very, very true, esp. in recent months.

  3. I believe there will be a number of consequences from the fallout of this fraudulent election. First, there will be a new cable news network created that replaces Fox. Second, there will be significant electoral ramifications for those R's who deserted Trump in his hour of need. Third, Trump will not go away quietly should his fight against this lawlessness fail - he'll be that perpetual highway patrolman in Xiden's rearview mirror. Fourth, and probably the most important, there will be a spotlight placed on the resident evil that tries to control our thoughts and lives - the worthless media, big tech, and the social media brothels.

  5. In Perdue's defense, he said the trades were done by financial consultants without his input. And this article is by the NY Times?

    1. Welcome to the new fascism, where appearances (behavior and aesthetics) are to conform to the dictates of the powers that be.

Trading performed on your behalf by independent financial consultants? Why that "looks" funny. You're now indicted for financial improprieties.

      And that's just for starters...

    2. His committees are Armed Services, Banking, Housing, Urban Affairs, Foreign Relations, and Government.

Companies "falling under purview" of THAT many committees are as numerous as bottles in a beer warehouse.

It is the NYT, so what did you expect?

Explain again why someone should be concerned about Republicans holding the Senate? Green cards being printed like Harris/Biden ballots, changing base names, this. The Reptilian Party holds me in as much contempt as the Democrats do. I am done with it forever. If Trump wants my vote in 2024, in the off chance he's not actually in prison, he better run as an Independent.

    1. For myself, I believe holding on to the Senate will stop the worst of the excesses coming our way if Trump fails. Some will do it out of a sense of self-preservation but so be it. Biden can do lots of damage if there is no restraint on his actions.

    2. "will stop the worst of the excesses"

Yeah I'm not sure about that, most of what I consider excesses blows through every day, all day long with a republican senate in place.

  9. So... Executive Order on Imposing Certain Sanctions in the Event of Foreign Interference in a United States Election was something that caught my eye about two weeks ago while chasing rabbit holes and internet rumors.

Most of what you will find floating is someone referencing 2018 EO or EO2018. Nether are correct, both are lazy references and that to me is usually the first sign that someone had too much sauce for the day and or/is speaking of something they really know nothing about.

But I kept seeing this reference pop up in several places like GWP, CFP and other comment sections... But usually mixed with a good amount of hillbilly cray cray.

I ended up chasing most of the subject matter back to a place called the Warren Report Blogspot. Woah Boy... If you need a new conspiracy in your life that's the place for you because they have them in SPADES!

Dodging the bat-S and BS and ignoring the over all theme of... "Sydney Powell's Kraken is a super secret cyber warfare group" and **Marshal Law will be declared by Trump** stories. I gave up on the subject.

Untill I ran into a thread with JE Dyer referencing "The Kraken" and in some side bar I got the chance to ask her about both the kraken crazy and EO 13848.

Her thoughts were that there's possibly merit to EO 13848 but people are way over blowing what the order allows for response.

We've seen testimony given on Iran / China being within Dominion's network given by a cyber security expert during the Arizona hearings. (Sorry I can't keep up with names anymore, there are TOO MANY witnesses to these things). I read the guys affidavit and knowing what I know of networking and and security, it's pretty damn solid.

The other part may be within the executive order itself and the way it relates to individuals and organizations which is where the water gets muddy for me in trying to comprehend some of the lingo. If I understand correctly it would even cover US interest where election interference came into play on behalf of a foreign entity as well as nation. If "entity" is in play, that could cover a WIDE margin of NGOs... Which is what made the concept stick in my brain.

Maybe I am right maybe I am wrong, someone smarter than me please give an opinion on that while Mark is mulling it over.

It's could all just be a giant ghost and my own down play on other larger conspiracies that I refuse to accept but may find a small glint of something shiny and pretty.

I have little faith in our government but a few players like our DNI are true Trump supporters. Being that Ratcliffe is responsible for drafting and release of the report there may be a small chance in a rolling doughnut of getting some honesty from it.

But it would be interesting or fun to see something like the Soros group, or Dominion, or several others get caught and have their assets seized by the US Treasury.

  10. Try again ...

I walked the streets of a North Texas, Dallas, suburb to get H. Ross Perot on the Texas ballot. Yes, I voted for him. Trump represented that same thought of Perot.

Today, we have a bill put forth that may become law that stops Trump’s attempts at getting us out of Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere.

The United States government is not run by the President. Trump tried to change that. This “election” was a response to Trump’s efforts.

    1. Now, now. Those were diligent workers who just wanted to get the job done after everybody else called it a day. And those weren't ballots they pulled out from under that table that conveniently had a floor length table cloth on it- it was lost luggage that those diligent workers were trying to return to the people who lost it.

  14. I took the time to read the 12th amendment since there seems to be a possibility that the electoral college does not provide a majority vote for President and VP. That states that in the event there is no majority in the electoral college, that "the House of Representatives shall choose immediately" the president. Tells me this does not wait for the new Congress. If not selected by January 20th, the VP (whoever that is) becomes president.

There is also a quorum requirement that " shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states". Does that mean 2/3rd of full state delegations? Or only 2/3 of some number of members so long as 34 states have at least one person there (so quorum could technically be as few as 34 house members)?

So now about the VP. The Senate has the same 2/3 quorum requirement, but it is more clear that it is 2/3 of the Senate body since each Senator has their own vote. The Senate has no cutoff date to select the VP. The Dems could easily decline to provide a 67 vote quorum to select the VP

The 12 amendment provides no provision for what would happen if neither a President nor VP are selected by Congress. It looks like, per the 20th amendment, Pelosi would be sworn in on January 20th in that case as next in line? If the 34 House member quorum interpretation is correct, the GOP could potentially select president Trump with the GOP state-delegation majority. But I assume the House would still have to be in session per House rules, which the Dems can control. The Senate is allowed to make its own provisions for filling the VP spot, but not sure what they have in place.

Regardless of facts about the election, Democrats will claim any GOP electors contrary to media declared winner of their state will be nothing but a raw political power grab. In that scenario, why wouldn't Pelosi shut the House down to ensure she is sworn in as President?

I don't think it's enough to just not certify the results in some state. Trump needs to get GOP electors chosen for the electoral college in contested states.

    1. I think Trump's political instincts are once again/still perfectly attuned to the situation. His address to the nation and his specific remarks about counting only "legal" votes is aimed at exploiting the provable part of this fraud -- the actual physical ballot or lack thereof. Demleft may be able to run out the clock constitutionally speaking and Xiden gets installed but I think there is actually a bigger game that Trump and team are playing and that is swaying public opinion to the reality of the corruption of the Demleft. COVID included. We must assume that he is seeing the numbers of something like the actual vote and he is seeing that his "outreach" over the last four years has had a positive effect. He probably doesn't see that this election win or lose is a significant blip in that process. He has probably had a much better idea of the scope and power of he global lefts hold on US government than we have had and he most assuredly has a plan for the long game, whatever his plans are for the short game. I think he is very much intending to prevent a civil war right now, and wants us to believe in and join the fight of his persuasion war. I think Mike Flynn is on board and engaged. If the Dems gain the whitehouse, so be it, the battle to persuade goes on and is waged from different battlements. The outline is clear from representations by SP and LW and Grinnell and others. Hell , even the embattled AG Barr might be on board, fighting the demleft with persuasion not with the levers of power temporarily possessed. Maybe there will be indictments or some declass or some signs that they give us, but it will be of the variety that is intended to convince us of the injustice that is being done. Whether this will work, whether it will find expression in a new political party or a movement, hard to say, but one thing is certain, this fraud election assures that DJT is not going away.

If Dems refuse to allow a House session, it'll be obviously the greatest move of obstruction in US history.
GOP House members should hold a "rump" session, and vote to declare DJT as PotUS.
That would be the Mother of All Gauntlets to cross, but under the clearest possible circumstances.

  15. Firm That Conducted ‘Audit’ of Georgia Voting Machines Has Long History With Dominion

The firm hired by Georgia’s secretary of state to conduct an “audit” of Dominion Voting Systems technology used during the 2020 elections is the same one that previously certified the Dominion systems and also approved a last-minute system-wide software change just weeks before the election.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger failed to disclose that the company, Pro V&V, had a preexisting relationship with Dominion that dated back years, in his Nov. 17 statement announcing the results of the audit.

Raffensperger also failed to disclose that Dominion had used technical conclusions from Pro V&V in a pre-election Georgia lawsuit that questioned the reliability of Dominion’s systems during a last-minute software fix before the Nov. 3 election. The testing from Pro V&V had been characterized as “superficial” and “cursory testing” by an expert cited in court documents.

In the widely quoted statement, Raffensperger said that the audit of Dominion machines was complete, there was “no sign of foul play,” and that ”Pro V&V found no evidence” of tampering with the machines:

“We are glad but not surprised that the audit of the state’s voting machines was an unqualified success,” said Secretary Raffensperger.

And I’ll bet Dominion and Pro V&V have lined Raffensberger’s pockets...

My guess is there are supporters of the “GOP” Governor and Secretary of State that the two GOP senate candidates don’t want to alienate...

What they are forgetting is Trump voters note their lack of support for Trump on the election fraud.
