Ya Gotta Luv CNN

It must be a slow news day if I have to resort to shooting fish in a barrel ...

CNN Reporting (via FR):

CNN: Study finds hydroxychloroquine helped coronavirus patients survive better
CNN ^ | July 2 2020 | By Maggie Fox, Andrea Kane, and Elizabeth Cohen, CNN
(CNN) A surprising new study found that the controversial antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine helped patients better survive in the hospital.
A team at Henry Ford Health System in Southeast Michigan said Thursday its study of 2,541 hospitalized patients found that those given hydroxychloroquine were much less likely to die.

TDS strikes deep--and it can kill you and/or your loved ones.

1. There's NOTHING "surprising" about this study--it simply confirms what all legit studies have confirmed previously. As opposed to unscientific, rigged "studies."

2. There is NOTHING "controversial" about HCQ--it's one of the most widely used and safest drugs when properly used in human history--per Wikipedia. It's regarded by WHO as "essential." And its use as an anti-viral agent is not news:

Hydroxychloroquine was approved for medical use in the United States in 1955. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the safest and most effective medicines needed in a health system. In 2017, it was the 128th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than five million prescriptions.

There should be law suits over this travesty:

The media’s obsession with harming the President literally resulted in thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Not to mention state governors who banned this drug simply out of disdain for the President.
I don’t think we have ever seen such an egregious misuse of power in our lives.

The studies were out there for years! Dr Fauci even touted its safety and effectiveness for SARS years ago. Sue your governor if they blocked your Primary care or hospital physician from prescribing and your loved  one died!

  1. This short read from Sharyl Atkisson's Full Measure is well worth it, if you haven't already. Maddening, really.

    1. The statements in there are more devastating than Sharyl makes out in her conclusion.

    2. Absolutely. And sure, it's just one study, and it was a retrospective and so not rigorously controlled, but it had an N of 2,541 and is for sure yet another nail in the coffin for any notion that HCQ is dangerous quack medicine and can only do patients harm.

We really see these days, being played out right in front of us, that old Stalin line that one death is a tragedy but a million deaths are just a statistic. Untold thousands of people are needlessly suffering and even dying for the sake of the most crass and ignoble of political ends, and none of the perpetrators are even a little bit fazed. It's just a statistic to them ... "politics ain't beanbag" and all that.

  2. What's news is not that HCQ helps Covid-19 patients but that CNN reported it. That's a "man bites dog" story.

As President Trump said (crediting 1970s President Nixon for the quip), if he walked across the Potomac, CNN would report that "Trump Can't Swim!"

  3. I’m not sure the study even used Zinc, which supposedly helps a lot.

    1. @Ray: Strangely, they didn't. And then when they combined HCQ with azithromycin, the results were inferior to HCQ alone. Curious.

At the henryford.com site, the researchers didn't even explain why zinc wasn't included. I just totally don't get that. If they felt there was no need to include it in the study, they should at least have said why.

FYI, this sharylatkisson.com link has a real good write up, plus a link to the henryford.com piece on the study. bit.ly/2BYl8mZ

  4. Our CDC/NIH/FDA appear to be blocking simple, inexpensive drug treatment that would prevent or moderate the china virus so it would be no worse than a bad or moderate flu season. That would open the country back up immediately.

R&D has not been completely blocked in smaller countries, so progress is slowly being made, in addition to the hydroxychloroquine studies listed at https://c19study.com
Britain: Dexamethasone is massively cheaper than $3000 for remdesivir.

Australia: Ivermectin discovery won a Nobel prize, and seems effective against an increasingly wide variety of virus and parasitic infections.

The medication, called colchicine, is an anti-inflammatory taken as a pill. It's long been prescribed for gout, a form of arthritis, and its history goes back centuries. The drug was first sourced from the autumn crocus flower….The trial involved 105 Greek patients hospitalized in April with COVID-19. Besides receiving standard antibiotics and antivirals (but not remdesivir), half of the participants got daily doses of colchicine for up to three weeks, while the other half did not.
The results "suggest a significant clinical benefit from colchicine in patients hospitalized with COVID-19," according to the team led by Dr. Spyridon Deftereos, a cardiologist at Attikon Hospital in Attiki, Greece.

There are MANY other simple drugs that work invitro, and are being tested IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

Something is very, very, very wrong withe our CDC/NIH. It is not clear why PDJT didn't write an executive order declaring a "war on the china virus, and direct the impressively competent biology, chemical and medical expertise of the US to work on drugs, which are more promising than a vaccine.

    1. If you check out the Sharyl Atkisson links in comments above, the experts she spoke with had an answer to the question, What's wrong? Money. Follow the money.

  5. "There should be law suits over this travesty"

I'm generally not the litigious type, but in this case of people being denied FDA-approved medication, suffering and dying because Hate Orange Man ... sue the pants off those responsible. Actions have consequences. Speaking of which, how is it that the governor of New York ordered nursing homes to take infected patients when there was already evidence that the elderly were most susceptible?

    1. There was a time when such things would have been regarded as massive career-ending scandals. Today, to the extent that the Left ever even considers the fallout of its short-sighted, uninformed and ill-conceived actions, at best the reaction is "Meh".

    1. I got lazy and copied and pasted her name in that instance. It's very easy with Linux--just highlight what you want to copy, find the spot to paste it, then do a single middle-click at that spot and hey, presto! That's also why some of my links are 'broken'--my mouse needs a cleaning because it tends to do a double click when I intend only a single click.

  8. O/T. Like many (other than NYT, etc.) I thought Trump's Rushmore speech was magnificent.

Of course he is (and we are) going to fight back.

    3. The speech was one of his best. Well-crafted and delivered -very strong very inspiring. This morning NYT and WaPo both opined that it was “dark and divisive”. (Do they get Dem talking points every AM via text?)

I liked this comment that I saw somewhere:

I love how much the NY Times hated the speech
