MAJOR UPDATE: The One Question That Mattered

I saw this yesterday during Bill Barr's testimony and I'm sure many others caught it, too. Most of the "hearing" was just Dem smear theater to try to demonize Barr, perhaps with the hope of somehow intimidating him. To what purpose? To this purpose:

Rep. Mucarsei-Powell: Under oath, under oath, do you commit not to releasing any report by Mr. Durham before the November election?
AG Barr: No.

The notion that Barr would commit to such an outrageous demand just shows the sort of fantasy world these idiots are living in. Imagine. After something close to four years of coordinated lies and suppression of truth, of aggressive suppression of dissenting viewpoints, and Barr is going to commit to not pursuing and exposing truth that the American people have a right to? Well, it's beyond fantasy. It's evil.

UPDATE: From Michael Goodwin's very fine, "He Came, He Saw, He Ate Their Lunch."

Nearly every time I watch Barr in extended interviews or read one of his substantive speeches, I find myself saying, “If only.”
If only Barr had been Trump’s first attorney general, the last four years would have been dramatically different. Bob Mueller could have stayed in retirement because there was never real evidence of Russian collusion, not even enough, we now know, to start an FBI investigation.
It was all ginned up to thwart Trump during the campaign, and then upend his presidency. Yet because Trump picked Jeff Sessions to be AG, and because Sessions, in a supreme act of selfishness, took the job knowing he would recuse himself from overseeing the FBI probe, the nation got put through the wringer.

I will never, ever, understand "conservatives" who feel any pity for Jeff Sessions--supposedly badly treated by Trump. Where he ever got the nerve to run for the Senate after what he did to the country is beyond my understanding.

Dems were able to cow Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein into appointing Mueller and succeeded in putting the White House under a cloud of suspicion for nearly three years. All those leaks and screaming headlines — they were all just a bunch of nothingburgers. Some were Pulitzer Prize-winning nothingburgers.
The entire episode, starring Jim Comey, James Clapper, John Brennan, Hillary Clinton and other unindicted co-conspirators of the Obama-Biden administration, was the dirtiest dirty trick in American political history. And although there was no collusion, Dems and much of the media have never let go of the red-baiting insinuation that Trump is a Russian agent and an illegitimate president.
The growing political violence, 99 percent of it from the far left, is a direct consequence, yet most Democrats don’t dare denounce the insurrection. They save their condemnation for the federal officers who are under attack.
At one point Tuesday, Barr said flatly, “We have to take a stand.” He was talking to Congress, but he meant all of us.

  1. AG Barr had a golden opportunity to become the toast of the DC cocktail party circuit. He blew it.

    1. Ha! Depends on what cocktail party circuit you're referring to. In conservative circles you can bet he gets a rock star welcome anywhere he goes. And as for those other circles, you can bet that he'd be bored to tears which such shallowness.

    2. There is no such thing as a cocktail party circuit. We're dating ourselves. :)

    3. Cass, no cocktail party circuit in DC? Surely you are jesting…

  2. Since liberals are all about emotion, I wonder how those NYT's reporters "feel" about being continuously called out for those Pulitzers they were awarded for the falsehoods they peddled? Embarrassment seems to be beyond them...

      Of course it is.
Most of these brats no exactly what they're doing.

If guys like Taibbi are moving toward such conclusions (e.g. "The Left is Now the Right"), it shouldn't be hard, for Righties to help guys like him to face *all* of this music.

  3. If I was Barr, I would have prefaced every answer with "will you allow me sufficient time to provide a complete answer?"

And for those "yes or No" questions, I would have said "I decline to answer a complex issue question with a simple yes or no".

  4. Harris just asked Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), on Outnumbered, to respond to this very part of Barr's exchange with Mucarsel-Powell. Nothing terribly momentous, But Collins said "a crime is a crime" and Barr-Durham should release whatever they can as soon as they can. Harris asked if it would the proverbial "October Surprise." Collins didn't really quite go there by my interpretation. I couldn't replay it, but it seemed innocuous.

I guess what is interesting, though, is the idea Harris made it part of a segment this afternoon reinforces your point in this post. This question Mucarsel-Powell asked underlies much of the fear on the part of Dems. Or at least I think it does.

  5. Goodwin’s column was a winner. Surprisingly strong to me, as I thought he was kind of a wimpy guy who always dragged one foot when talking about anything re the President and his administration. He really came thhrough on this one.

There still seems to be confusion about Durham’s task. It is to investigate and, as warranted, prosecute criminal behavior. When he set up his investigative team, it was made clear that they were prosecutors. The goal is prosecutions. Barr told an interviewer on TV some time ago that a “report” would be a byproduct. He made it clear that that was not Durham’s goal. Durham is not an IG.

Those ragtag morons on the Dem side of the House Judiciary Committee are the most clueless I’ve seen in my longish history. Several come from my state. Swalwell, Lofgren, Bass, Lieu…. They are embarrassments.

  6. I wish AG Barr would have responded with "No, why do you ask that question?" As I mentioned on a previous blog I can see Durham and his crew re-doubling their efforts after this crap and with renewed motivation.

On a similar but separate topic, Sundance re-played the whole predicate / NSA abuse thing recently and seems to believe that there is 1 person out there hidden in the shadows who called all the shots behind the scenes that we're all unaware of. Further, comments suggest to stop "guessing" who that may be in order to prevent alerting this consortium(s) to the suspicions being cast.

Finally, I see where my hometown John Kass refuses to apologize to the Chicago Tribune "Guild" editorial board for the George Soros piece over the weekend. So grateful for that guy here.

    1. AC, as one who watched that miserable spectacle from beginning to bitter end, I don’t know when he could have said that many words. They were clearly set up from the starting gun to cut him off and pull that “I reclaim my time”. Along with all the rest of their stupidity (ignorance can be fixed; stupid is forever), they don’t seem to know that a hearing involves questions and responses, not serial monologues or jeremiads...

    6. Nany, that remark about “they don’t seem to know” was sarcasm. We all know they were prompted, scripted and sent in to do battle. There was no chairman. Just rabble, going at it like hyenas. They were so obvious that the wise Mollie Hemingway tweeted that the Republicans should now trick them into doing another hearing with Barr...

  7. What evidence does Goodwin have that Rosenstein needed to be "cowed" into appointing Mueller? Rosenstein appears to be firmly planted in the conspiracy.

On a different note, the best strategy for any admin member going in front of these clowns is ridicule. As CS Lewis wrote, the devil cannot bear to be mocked. Neither can Democrats, esp these peacocks.

    1. Whatever the rationalization for what RR did, there's no excuse and, IMO, he should be criminally charged.
