UPDATED: Breaking: Antifa Seizes Capitol Hill!

No, not THAT Capitol Hill--Capitol Hill, Seattle:

Just as the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed territory in Iraq and Syria, antifa militants have claimed territory in Seattle, Wash. According to reports on the ground from The Post Millennial’s Andy Ngo and Townhall’s Julio Rosas, protesters and antifa instigators have seized land in the Capitol Hill area around the Seattle Police East Precinct. Like ISIS, the rioters appear to have decided on setting up a government in their occupied territory, naming it “Free Capitol Hill.”
“Seattle [Mayor Jenny Durkan] is allowing a dangerous situation to fester. [Antifa] militants have taken over & created an ‘autonomous zone’ in city w/their own rules. Police precinct abandoned. Antifa set up barricades to create a border. Calling for volunteers to provide armed guard,” Ngo tweeted.
His message included tweets from rioters and pictures of the “Free Capitol Hill” poster on the side of a barricade, along with a map of the area antifa had taken over.
“The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone. Folks in Seattle have secured six block of city [at the moment], barricaded it, and gotten local businesses and residents to agree to, well, disaffiliate from Seattle basically. It’s a flux state in the making,” Alex Humva tweeted.

Reports have it that the Seattle PD has pulled out of their precinct building there and it has been taken over by Antifa.

When I first read about this I was outraged. Upon further reflection, however, I asked myself--Why not?

Capitol Hill is a densely populated residential district in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is one of the city's most prominent nightlife and entertainment districts and is the center of the city's LGBT and counterculture communities.
...
Culture

Large-scale gay residential settlement of Capitol Hill began in the early 1960s. Accordingly, this district is home to a sizable number of gay and lesbian couples making Capitol Hill Seattle's "gayborhood".

It's America. Or Blue America, anyway.

UPDATE: Andrea Widburg at AmThinker has coverage--Watching in real time as Seattle descends into anarchy--which includes this tweet:

Will Americans vote for the people behind this, come November?

  1. As HL Mencken said about voters getting what they deserve good and hard--this seems fitting.

    2. George Floyd was just a primer. All this was set and ready long ago. Only waiting for a catalyst, a thin reed to hang the rage on. Of the blacks murdered in Chicago, Baltimore, etc. since his death not so much as a pause or peep.

    3. When we, at ostensibly conservative forums, stop waiting for trials, give up our country’s belief in innocent until PROVEN guilty, our country is in more trouble than I thought…

As for the CHAZ (what those Seattle Antifa are calling their “autonomous zone”, they have put out a tweet that more guns are needed at CHAZ.

    6. The longer that situation is permitted to exist, the more difficult it will be to restore law and order. They'll become entrenched. They're already calling for more weapons. Probably beginning to set up a "governing council" in their little self-declared six-block People's Republic of anarchy. Wait until they start adjudicating punishment for "crimes" in their fantasy utopia.

    7. I agree with Bebe. We should stop presuming 'guilty' for Derek Chauvin. He hasn't spoken a word since his encounter. What is his side of the story?

      We don't know.

    8. Maybe the residents of CHAZ should read the ending in Tom Clancy's "Rainbow 6". It did not turn out well for the radical environmentalists.

  3. Well, this is just a trial run for what communities will look like without funding police departments. If you want more riots and looting, and if you want sections of your cities cordoned off into no-go zones depending upon your race, all you need to do is defund the police.

I say everyone on the right should encourage cities to do just that. To limit the damage, we should encourage a trial run rather than implementing it everywhere. Only when these liberal bastions become even more of a hell hole might their citizens decide to try something else. Seattle would be as good a place as any to just eliminate their police force--what they have right now is not all that different than no police force at all.

    2. There are a lot of good people still left in cities. They don't support this stuff. They don't deserve to be abandoned. Many of them are elderly.

  4. Both the Democrats and Republicans are playing politics with the current wave of manufactured civil unrest. Both parties are using this to inflame emotions in their base in hopes that it will improve turnout in the Fall election.

But the main consequence may well be that it further bifurcates the nation into camps that are becoming more widely divided and unlikely to heal anytime soon. The Left smells blood in the water and will escalate until they can get a scalp (Trump) or cause so much harm that a spanking becomes inevitable. The Right is in self-imposed isolation and seething quietly, while lamely hoping that some adult will step forward to administer the spanking.

And the hot summer months are still ahead, and both parties will hold their nominating conventions during the hottest month. This is a recipe for disaster, extreme property damage, and likely loss of life for both police and innocent civilians.

The only realistic remedy is for someone to step forward with a strong hand and state bluntly that lawlessness will be met with serious consequences. The time is now to make that statement and set a few examples before things get too far out of hand.

The insurrection in Seattle could be a good place to start.

  5. Per CT something similar happened in Portland for five weeks in 2018. I guess nothing negative happened in response to Antifa.

I don't remember this happening, I guess another news blackout, where the MSM chose not to cover.

    1. Don’t know about 5 weeks in Portland. There was a riot on August 4 when Antifa squared off against a rally being held by the PrayerPatriots and the Proud Boys. It got pretty nasty. The police were definitely involved - rubber bullets, flash bangs and all…

CBS headlined it, calling antifa (small a) a “counter protest group”:

    2. Correction: Patriot Prayer. Their leader kept bringing them back to Portland for rallies and that angered the “counterprotesters”…aka Antifa. At some point:

In the aftermath, Gibson organized a pro-President Donald Trump free speech rally that attracted thousands from both sides to downtown Portland. The ensuing chaos shut down much of the city's core and police arrested more than a dozen. (same link)

  6. The Right, or so called "Conservative" Politicians, with the exception of Trump, especially the eGOP and Never Trumpers, are vainly trying to make sure they are not labeled as "Racists" and "Hitler". And hoping if they act virtuous enough, by ignoring the civil unrest, they will escape that.

    >The Right is in self-imposed isolation and seething
    >quietly

Most of the Non Left is seething, but they are afraid of being Doxed, called a Racist, assaulted, etc. if they so much as wear a Trump Hat, much less say about the current insanity of the Left. Look what happened to Drew Brees, and the CEO of Crossfit for tweeting "It's FLOYD-19." Or the NY Times with their editorial calling for shunning anyone not supporting the narrative.

    1. Last nite Tucked fingered Mitch, as being among the eGOP crowd which yields the floor to the Left.
Who has what on Mitch etc., and can Barr's likely busts of the D.S. crowd make dents in this trend?
What role does the Fortune 500 have in bulldozing Mitch etc.?

    3. aNany--I don't know the specific situation you refer to, but Mitch often waits, giving the prog-left Dems sufficient rope. Tucker can be very impatient with situations he finds obvious. Politics isn't a pushbutton sport the way many in media presume.

After all, media is entertainment. It can be worth taking a break from screaming heads and frothing mouths occasionally. YMMV.

    5. Forbes, I'm talking about what any eGOP brass have done, to challenge Lefty claims about the existence/ impact of "systemic racism", e.g. in the Floyd case.
Has any really major voice on the Right, beside Tucker, stood vs. any of the Left's premises here?
They always keep their powder dry, and never use it.

    6. But Mitch is Mitch, always has been.

He has been good on judges, and he held the line on impeachment. But otherwise he serves the interests of big business and cheap labor.

Is it really so hard for Republicans to understand that helping big business should be for the purpose of helping American workers?!

There won't be an American consumer if there are no American workers.

  7. I think your assessment is correct. All it will take is someone taking on the rabid left, and there will suddenly be a preference cascade in favor of that leader. Trump is just the type of person to do that. I think he already is doing this, but not getting enough credit on the right for it. There is a reason minority job approval for Trump has gone up recently. Large numbers of minority voters disapprove of what their liberal city leaders are doing and want an end to the violence. By letting their cities burn, liberal leaders are creating an opening for Trump unlike anything they have done in the past four years.

      My wife says:

I don’t know why Lori’s abandoning the black community is a surprise. The reporter should know that Lori’s support came not from the black community so much as the Lakefront ‘independents.’ And they came out to vote for her. Blacks did not come out in sufficient numbers to vote for Lori’s opponent, Toni Preckwinkle, the President of the Cook County Board and Democratic machine candidate.

Lori is part of the establishment having gone to the University of Chicago Law School, practiced corporate law at Mayer Brown and been head of the police review board. She has always, to me, seemed to identify as part of the LGBT community far more than as a black woman. So, no one should be surprised that she would protect the Loop and Streeterville areas at the expense of the neighborhoods.

    2. I agree that this situation plays into Trump's strengths, but I worry that Trump is ceding his better judgment to Kushner.

There was that Tucker rant a couple weeks ago, and now this from American Greatness:

I saw that to. Very clear as to how Trump is being undermined by those closest to him.

Speaks to what I said a couple of weeks ago about Carl Rove "advising" the WH. Rove denied that he was advising Trump. Ever the prevaricator and dissembler he said nothing of advising Kushvanka who have DJ's ear.

In the essay Kushner is quoted as saying. "Where are they going to go," when the subject of Trump voters not approving of the globalist agenda he pushes. Only the very elite can afford to be this vain and cluelessly condescending. We can stay home, buy guns and ammo, keep our powder dry, and delay, obstruct, and stymie any and all efforts of the bureaucracy and national police, which the Dems are beginning to form, to control the hinterland.

    6. Once again, some of us agree with those who have decided that President Trump is pushed this way and that by his family members. Those who know President Trump, and some who have simply observed him up close, have another take. He is a very good listener and a quick study. He collects information from various sources and then makes up HIS own mind.

Having watched him for a few years - plus knowing what he achieved before that - I’d say the latter is more reasonable. He does not seem like a wuss to me….

    7. Not a matter of being a wuss. This is family, they have access when ever they want in the West Wing, sit in on many policy councils, and he has dinner with them every night. This type of influence is like gravity: the hardest of the four forces to measure, but by far and away the most powerful.

    9. I have grown children. Sons. Smart guys with good sense. They give me a lot of advice, much of it solicited, some not so. I listen. Sometimes I take their advice or a little of it. Most often I consider it and then follow my own judgment.

They do the same with me.

Spending time with one’s family does not mean that one rolls over for every bit of advice they offer. At least I hope you don’t!!! We parents are the grownups who have had much more experience.

I do not understand the antipathy toward President Trump’s daughter and son-in-law. Surely it isn’t jealousy. What is the point of creating suspicion of weakness about the President by going after his children? Buying into the notion that he is allowing them to lead him around by the nose? Seriously? I just do not believe that that is truthful. And it has to be hurtful to the Trumps. All of them. Particularly the President.

Why would his so-called “supporters" keep hammering on this on public forums? One wonders.

  9. The teenager whose tweet is part of the article - “Laura Couç” - is actually Laura Couch, who has been at this a while as a member of the YDSA - the place where the Democratic Socialists of America snare young supporters before they are old enough to understand what our country is and has been about. Their latest hook for teens was AOC, DSA princess. Here’s Laura from a few years ago as she’d been working on a political campaign for DSA candidate Jon Grant, who was running for Seattle City Council. You want scary? Read this article:

Also working on the campaign were members of Seattle’s Ballard High School YDSA, including junior Laura Couch. Couch, 16, said she began organizing with her high-school chapter over the summer. One of their first actions as a group was to join a counter-protest to an alt-right event. She said that in the moment, they felt like revolutionaries. But when some of the protesters began to throw confetti and spray Silly String at the cops, officers shot the crowd with pepper spray. “Overall, it was a great bonding experience that brought us all together,” she said.
