Peter Daszak: Follow The Money

How many times have you heard that Peter Daszak--Gain-of-Function entrepeneur extraordinaire--heads a "non-profit" organization, EcoHealth Alliance? As we find out so often with liberal non-profit outfits, the organizations may be non-profit but the people running them are very much in it for the money.

It's one of those weird things about life in the American Empire that we often need to look for relevant information in out of way places--places other than the MSM--or even overseas. For example, you probably haven't read about Peter Daszak's lifestyle much in the US media, but the Daily Mail (UK) had a nice piece just the other day:

• DailyMail.com spotted Dr. Peter Daszak outside of his million dollar home in an affluent neighborhood of Rockland County, New York on Friday
• The House Energy and Commerce Committee sent Daszak 34 questions  about his charity's involvement with the Wuhan lab in April with a May 17 deadline
• Daszak has failed to respond to any of its questions about his charity, EcoHealth Alliance, and its federal funding, according to a well-placed source
• That funding went to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, which is accused of being the source of Covid-19
• Rather than answer DailyMail.com's questions about his involvement in Wuhan, he said, 'Goodbye, I have no comment' and called the police
• Federal data seen reveals the Pentagon gave $39 million to EcoHealth Alliance between 2013 and 2020  

It's a long, interesting article with lots of photos, as usual. This part jumped out, as it ties in Daszak's overall role in the Wuhan coverup with his finances:

In April the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent him 34 questions about his involvement with the [Wuhan] lab.

Despite a deadline of May 17, Daszak has failed to respond, a source close to the committee told DailyMail.com.

The questions were about his charity, its federal funding which went to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China, and the work the U.S. nonprofit did with the Chinese lab.

Daszak - who last year earned more than $410,000 - lives with his immunologist wife Janet Cottingham in a five-bed, five-bath home in an affluent town in Rockland County, New York, 30 miles northwest of Manhattan. They bought the house, set on two acres of land, for a bargain $665,000 in 2015. It is now estimated to be worth around $1 million.

Rather than respond to the allegations that he 'bullied' other scientists into signing off on a letter to a prestigious medical journal that removed blame for Covid-19 on the Wuhan Institute of Virology - and that his ties to the lab led to such a conflict of interest that he should never have sat on two panels investigating the cause of Covid-19 -  he told a DailyMail.com reporter: 'You need to remove your car from our drive right now, leave the area and never come back.

 

I remember LOLing the other day when I read an anonymous (of course) scientist bellyaching that the Obama admin's ban on GOF research in the US would have "shut down all virology." What he really meant, as anyone familiar with the government would realize immediately, was that the ban would have turned off the money spigot. This is what "science" and so many other things in America are about. Senators and Representatives funnel money to their states and districts to fund things they either don't understand or do understand and don't care about--it's about votes for the next election, and that money creates jobs. University programs, law enforcement programs, DoD related programs--the list is virtually endless. When something goes badly wrong we see the usual theater, but very little accountability from our elected "representatives."

Why don't presidents put a stop to it? Because the SCOTUS, in one of its all time worst decisions, shot down the Line Item Veto. They thought this was the right way to do the business of governing the American Empire. Perhaps that was their insight--governing the American Empire is very much a business for all concerned, er, involved.
