Looking For Some Good News?

Aren't we all? This article at Red State really cheered me up:

Beyond the Ratings a New Poll Shows Professional Sports are in Real Trouble with Americans

The article discusses, in particular, a Gallup survey of favorability that covered 25 major industries--not just pro sports. The whole article is quite fascinating, but here's an excerpt--pay attention to how demographically broad based this decline in support is:

Each year Gallup surveys Americans on their favorability in regards to 25 major industries in the country. In its latest, released this week, we see some precipitous declines that should shake the constitutions of the fist-shaking pro athletes. Of all the sectors measured in the survey, professional sports suffered the biggest drop in support, falling all the way to 23rd on the list and settling barely above The Federal Government. The negative impressions by Americans now see sports underwater by double digits, with a 30%-40% favorable/unfavorable ratio.
Things are only more bleak in the metrics. This decline was not a number moved by one sector rebelling against the actions in athletics. In all categories measured – gender, race, age, and politics — pro sports saw sharp declines of support. Among all adults favorability plunged -30%, and of particular alarm should be that wage earners in the 35-45 age group dropped -44%. Non-white Americans fell a sharp -35%. Even the most supportive sector – Democrats – fell, a lower -5%, but among those declaring to be Independent there was a -36% drop in approval; where that category harbored a positive impression last year at +26% they now sit with a -10% approval.
What needs to be highlighted is that this was not a poll driven by leading questions. People were not asked specifically if the activism was driving them off, nor given ”Have the protests changed your impression of sports’’ queries. This was a general impression poll asked of numerous industries.

Naturally I speculated how this could play into the election. In a sense, it's all of a piece with the continuing Antifa/BLM street theater--liberals shoving their views down everyone's throats. Hopefully the survey results are an indication of how badly this could turn out.

    Just from today.

We should give them all the free time they need to hold hands and sing the International with their BLM/Antifa comrades.

  3. Tired of having BLM crammed down our throats, we decided to give these millionaires a rest. We do watch Angels baseball games, but prerecord them and screen out the rubbish, leaving just the ball game. Lately those have been hit and miss, but the team is a pretty likable crowd, so we hang in there. I am aiming to be voted Fastest Remote Fast Forwarder in Los Angeles County, if not the world.

    1. Formerly, I put all sports-viewing on mute, and read a book. You couldn't possibly miss any action with all the replays, got several chapters read, and was never interrupted by the inanity of the non-stop-talking announcers...

Now, I don't even bother putting it on. Haven't missed any of it in several years. Get more reading done, too.

  5. 1965 Metropolitan Stadium Bloomington Minnesota - saw Koufax beat the Twins to win the World Series. Sat with my mom in right field behind my favorite player Tony Oliva. These moronic athletes of today can never erase that memory.
