Barr: I Felt Like I Was Reenacting D-Day!

Yeah, I'll bet!

The Hill

@thehill
AG Barr: "As we've been watching the coverage of June 6, 1944 D-Day, I had the thought that my arrival this time felt a little bit, I think, like jumping into Sainte-Mère-Église on the morning of June 5, trying to figure out where you could land without getting shot."

My advice: Get to know your security detail and treat them well.

  1. Indeed, get on a first name basis. First step towards "humanizing" the relationship. 2nd step, 20 year old scotch.

  2. As I read the back and forth here and on CTH, PL and elsewhere, one thing comes to mind. Let's say, for example, Brennan gets indicted.

What do you think the Dems will do?

I'm getting a sense that those of us who want the law enforced, irrespective of where the chips fall, are making a mistake.

We think Dems will see the light if any or all of these FBI/CIA/NSA miscreants get charged. I don't think they will. They're not rational, they're not evidence-based. They're completely unhinged.

Their claim will be that Barr is a stooge of Trump, or the racists, etc. Their attempt at attacking Barr's legitimacy is exhibit A. They are never going to stop.

Many of us thought it would (have to) end with the Mueller Report. I'm really concerned that nothing Barr does, put it on a spectrum from simple censure to actual prison terms, will matter a whit. Democrats, and they have demonstrated this for going on three years, absolutely refuse to yield.

64K question: how do we get out of this mess without having a colossal social-cultural melt down, or an actual civil war of some kind?

I know I've never suggested anything of the sort, and I'm unaware of any commenter here--well, perhaps a single exception--who has, either.

So I take it that when you write:

"those of us who want the law enforced, irrespective of where the chips fall, are making a mistake."

You're suggesting that the law ought not be enforced?

Yes, I understand that you go on to aske a "64K question." My view is that there IS room for some optimism. Of course Lib/Progs will NEVER change their minds. However, Trump's ratings DO suggest that there are many people in the "moderate middle" who are open to persuasion and who will be influenced by further revelations and, yes, by prosecutions.

    1. I fervently hope that you are right. I certainly want the law enforced. If it's one problem America has had in recent decades, it's the uneven way the law is enforced--or utterly ignored.

    2. More lack of enforcement is, IMO, a surest way to lead us down the road to "a colossal social-cultural melt down, or an actual civil war of some kind."

And here's a good article on point: Impeachment will reelect Trump.

  4. I agree with your thoughts. First, we do what is right, regardless of the consequences. That is the most important point. Second, you never back off from a bully, if you are in the right. That only encourages him. Third, the independent part of the electorate, will support justice. (At least this is my hope.)
