New Article at AT

I have an article at AT: Predication Is for Chumps: The Sorry Lesson Linking Crossfire Hurricane to Robert Hanssen. It was written for AT, but I'll have an expanded (!) version here later. Anyone interested may want to hold off comments for the expanded version proper to this blog.

I'll be back in a few hours to deal with things.

  1. Very well said, I learned a few things about what seems ancient in the context of today’s events. Happy Sunday!

  2. And a real fine article, it was. (I jumped to it from the Powerline Picks even before I saw your link here.)

Would one be wrong to conclude the FBI's refusing a proper look in the mirror/at its own is hardly a recent development? Pride cometh before a fall - then as much as now, huh? Gosh, it's almost like at least some of those sages of yore understood a thing or two about human nature. Or something like that...

    1. Back then was a particular mentality of distrust of outsiders etc. Later, the FBI underwent a Deep State takeover.

    2. Yep, big oops! on my part. I should've been more careful there, since I know very well the problems now are a completely different beast. Definitely didn't mean to rope earlier FBI HQs into the muck of the more recent versions.

  4. FWIW, Stephen McIntyre makes some real good points re the predicate in this thread bit.ly/2tg7bwg

    For example:

1/ my interpretation (based on very close examination of any available documents for a long time) is that the notion that "Trump team" had received an "offer" arose in the embellishment by Dibble (or possibly subsequent FBI embellishment), not from Downer, let alone Pap.

2/ i.e. the predicate arose entirely from embellishment by US government (most likely by Clinton partisan Dibble) and that Downer's words by themselves would not yield predicate. Barr stated (correctly) that Pap's words were nothing more than what Judge Nap had said on Fox.

3/ this may indicate that (the extraordinarily acute) Barr grasped the important distinction between what Downer's characterization of what Pap said and the embellished FBI version used to open the case.

    /end

This other thread by Hans Mahncke ( bit.ly/2YPVKXM ) adds some good points backing up the general idea that if Horowitz hadn’t just blindly accepted as accurate Elizabeth Dibble’s unsupported version of what Downer (let alone PapaD) had said, the labeling of the predication as justified would’ve been even more untenable.

Lastly, this oldie-but-goodie Huber thread ( bit.ly/2YUw8sT ) gives us a quick 411 on Dibble (misspelled in thread as Dribble) and the bastardized process that got PapaD’s supposed words to USG.

    1. Barr's the real deal, doncha think? One way or another, I'm not buyin' what OIG is selling in this regard. When I publish my expansion you'll get some idea of why, while I respect OIG's abilities, their reports can be problematic.

    2. Just a FYI on the Undercover Huber thread--he has Elizabeth Dibble, deputy chief of mission-London, as married to Robert ("Bob") Kagan. It's Victoria Nuland, ass't sec of state, who's married to Kagan.

    3. That's a rather amazing mistake.
