The Dread Delta--The Excuse 'Teachers' Have Been Looking For?

Randi Weingarten let it slip--reopening 'schools' ain't a done deal:

American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten was ripped after hedging on whether or not U.S. schools would reopen in the fall during a Wednesday interview on MSNBC.

While having previously recommended that fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear masks, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reversed guidance following the spread of the new Delta variant of the virus, announcing that vaccinated people should return to wearing masks indoors and suggesting universal masking in schools.

Weingarten called the guidance a "curveball," before suggesting that school reopenings this fall are not a done deal.

"So the bottom line is, we're going to keep kids safe, we're going to keep our members safe, we're going to try to open up schools, and we're going to move through this political battlefield," Weingarten said.

Critics picked up on her comment about the reopening of schools because it sounded like backpedaling from when she argued in May that "we can and we must reopen schools in the fall."

You just knew--and I've been saying this--the government teachers would be looking for any excuse to keep government 'schools' closed.

In some areas there has been a significant migration of families to private schools. Meanwhile, reports are that home schooling is projected to double. Parents are fed up, kids probably are, too.

I'm in favor of shutting the government 'schools' down.

  2. The federal level of school aid/support should come with a new requirement--their share of financial support will come in the form of funds directly accessible by the parents of school age children to use however they see fit. That could be private school, public school if anyone really wants that, or even financial support for a parent to stay home and do home schooling.

  3. I'll go back to the issue being the department of education and federal intervention into higher education and especially loans.

If our schools were operating on a state level vs a quasi federalized dystopia we wouldn't have nearly the issues we have.

That is the backbone of bad ideas!!!

  4. When do Republicans/conservatives begin campaigning on shuttering the failing public schools in favor of education performed by the private sector with curriculum and monitoring selected by locally elected school boards and state governments? Liberals are all about 'rethinking' law enforcement; well, here's a perfect example of a government run disaster that needs a complete makeover. We know that the liberal teachers' unions and college professors are brainwashing the youth of our nation and have been for decades while conservatives wring their hands and complain but do nothing. This cornerstone of the indoctrination cult needs to be ripped out and replaced. Just imagine the benefits of having our youth love their country rather than defiling it...

  5. All the usual reasons for going back to the mask mandate must certainly apply, but five of them stand out most obviously to me:

    1) Having the schools make unvaxxed kids wear masks but letting the vaxxed go mask-free was simply not going to be doable politically. Better to just force them all to go masked and channel the resulting fury directly onto the Democrats' political opposition (see #s 4 and 5 below).

    2) Lay the groundwork to justify, once again, a bunch of fraud-friendly election rules for 2022.

    3) Continue to distract from issues like:
    - the election audits and the obvious fraudulence of the last election's major outcomes,
    - the fact that the virus is a joint product of the U.S. and Chinese Communist governments and that the most pro-Occam explanation of its release is that it was not an accident,
    - the invasion at the border,
    - the horrible economy,
    - CRT everywhere,
    - the regime's obvious pro-CCP actions and policies, etc.

The focus on masks works wonderfully to prevent the focus from being on all these other, much more regime-damaging issues. If the elections can be over masks and jabs and not over the things listed above, the regime will take that in a heartbeat.

    4) More leverage to divide the electorate into good ("the jab is the only solution") and evil ("the jab is a way worse solution than the other remedies proven to work tremendously well"). This "mother of all wedge issues" factor has been huge from the start and will stay that way to the bitter end.

    5) More opportunities to continue identifying, deplatforming and otherwise silencing and punishing opposition voices everywhere, and to justify doing so in the eyes of the public. After all, if the source of all our problems are these idiot morons who won't take the poke and/or those who speak of the poke's weaknesses and the strengths of the other options for dealing with the virus, then who could possibly be against just shutting them up, or worse, whatever that takes?

All in all, it would’ve been surprising if the regime had NOT gone back to the mask mandates. It’s still an extremely meaningful and consequential event, but not at all surprising.

    1. There are no studies supporting the use of masks to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

And there never will be. But tell that to those in power - it'll get you precisely nowhere.

  6. Where does one go to decertify schools that "don't open" normally and then teach CRT? Where does one go to demand tax dollars refunds for said choices?

  7. From all indications, locally elected school boards are not much better than any other locally elected officials.

It seems those who run for office are exactly the ones who should be banned from office. The cure is to 'draft' local officials, but then that would be slavery wouldn't it?
