It's not clear to me why the title refers to this as a "chimp-killing virus," since the article repeatedly refers to it as a "bacterium." Whatever, the disease has killed 56 chimps in Sierra Leone over the 13 years between 2005 and 2018.
Researchers admit that the big danger is that the disease could spread from the one chimp sanctuary in which it has occurred to wild chimps or other sanctuaries. Over those 13 years no humans were infected by the disease. Nevertheless, if you're running short on things to worry about ...

Only in a chimp sanctuary. Can be passed from humans to chimps. 50 deaths from 2005 to 2018. They worry about it getting into the wild.

(on the virus headline vs. the bacterium content, headline writers are probably going for virus everything these days…sometimes one wonders if they even read the articles - or know the difference)
