Dems Will Hold A 'Virtual' Convention

The official excuse is Covid, but I think everyone knows better. The Dems need a tightly scripted convention to try to slip a not "all there" candidate past the nation. I doubt it'll work. He'll still have to run a campaign of some sort.

Another unspoken reason is probably sheer fear. Fear of their base turning up and trashing Milwaukee on national TV. Fear of rage of the Bernie Bros, cheated of a nomination once again by the Liberal Oligarchs. Fear of platform fights. Fear of the Freak Shows that recent Dem conventions have become. Again, I doubt they can pull this off.

  1. The outline of the Dem campaign are already becoming clear: "Orange Man Bad!" "Trump = Racist!" "Rioting will continue until Trump is out of WH!"

IOW, the campaign is "anybody but Trump."

Hence Joe Biden becomes the "Not Trump" candidate, alleviating Dems from having to propose any meaningful policy alternatives, or demonstrate Biden is mentally more fit and agile than a bag of rusty hammers.

    1. That’s fine,, but does that one plank #NeverTrump non-platform really win a presidential election?

    2. While I did not waste my time reading the entire article, failed democratic presidential candidate John Kerry indicated a revolution would ensue if Trump was reelected.

    3. I have assumed since December that the Dems know they can't win the WH, and everything they are doing is designed to staunch the bloodbath in Congress, statehouses, and gubernatorial races, by trying to get their base back on board so they don't abandon them and stay home in November.

I'm not sure at all that running Biden will staunch the bloodbath. To change metaphors, it might be pouring gasoline on a fire. Running a guy who is so palpably out of touch seems a recipe for a bloodbath down ticket, by surpressing enthusiasm and turnout.

    5. Well, their alternative was Bernie.

My guess is the establishment Dems chose what they thought was the lesser of two bad alternatives, knowing neither one would win them the WH.

    6. I get that, but I do wonder whether they realized how badly off Biden is, mentally. It seems I recall there was some casting about for an alternative to Biden after Bernie was sidelined, but it was too late.

I think most Dems are so blinded by their hatred of Trump, they don't notice, and don't care if Biden is a vegetable salad. They are running on pure emotion at this point, since facts, reason, and logic are NOT on their side.

  2. They have a virtual candidate, why not a virtual convention.

  3. There are some of you old enough, probably most of you reading this, to remember Max Headroom. He is what I think about every time I see Biden these days.

His campaign was running a YouTube ad starting last week where Biden literally flubs the lines right at the start, and this was a prepared ad that you know they had probably shot 20 times or more, and that was the best version they got that day.

I remain convinced that Biden is replaced at the "convention", and that is one of the reasons they are doing this virtually- it solves the problem of blood on the convention floor when Sanders gets passed over for someone else.

  4. I think that the choice of VP is the tell. Biden's dementia becomes an advantage in precipitating a 25th Amendment process. The carefully selected, but publically less examined due to the e-convention, VP is slipped in. The Dems choice of VP candidate is the critical element.

    1. Yeah etchrle, the choice of VP is indeed the tell, even aside from a 25th Amendment process.
Most likely, Biden would be relying much on his VP (or SparkleFarts), from the very start.

  5. DNC Chairman Tom Perez is a vicious crazy. Heaven only knows what they’re up to if he is steering. And is he? Or is he just a figurehead? Are Obie and Mooch running things? Does any of them have a plan? Right now, with the emphasis on a black female VP candidate, choosing from a bunch of neophyte mayors, I’d say maybe not. Going for post-Floyd emotion all the way out in November?
